Brooki (Kammi in shelter)

"Brooki (Kammi in shelter)"

Brooklyn, Brooki for short, came into my life three months ago. I adopted her seven months after we put down Reesie (Named Wheezi at Peggy Adams). I didn't think I would ever be able to love another animal with the same intensity. When I inquired about Brooki a few months prior, I was a bit apprehensive because I had learned she had severe separation anxiety when left alone. After much thought, I decided since we work out of the house, it would be an ideal situation to get Brooki accustomed to living here and then gradually leave her by herself. She has done extremely well and never really exhibited any anxiety. She is not left alone for long periods of time, but on the occasion that she is home for a few hours, she does really well. I would encourage anyone who is looking for that "special" animal to really find out about the them and make sure that you and the animal are a good fit. It is so sad when hearing about shelter animals who have been adopted, then brought back because "it wasn't a good or convenient fit". Brooki has helped me heal tremendously. The bond was immediate. She is an amazing dog who is very loving, gentle, full of life, and very willing to love everyone who lets her into their life. She has been an incredible asset to our family. I love her with all my hear and soul.

Thor

"Thor"

Three months ago, my boyfriend and I went to Peggy Adams in hopes of finding an amazing fur child. We were immediately drawn to Thor. When we asked someone about him, it didn't seem like he would really be too good of a fit for our home because he was a high jumper, very hyper, and needed a large space to run. Hesitant, we still asked to see him outside of a cage. As soon as we got outside with Thor, we knew there was no way we were leaving without him. While filling out the paperwork to adopt Thor, we were told "he was a stray and we have never seen him around a child, we don't know how he will be with them". Having a 3 year old niece, this was very concerning. As soon as we got home, my niece came to meet Thor. We slowly let him approach her. He walked right over and gave her a big, wet kiss, and she gave him a big hug. They've been buddies ever since. Thor is thriving in our home, he loves running up and down the stairs, walking around the neighborhood, and meeting all of the people and wanting nothing more than to play with the many other dogs. Thor's favorite past time is cuddling. He is a 70 pound lap dog who always wants to lay on top of you and snuggle. We are so grateful for Peggy Adams for providing us with the most amazing dog we could imagine. Our lives have truly changed for the better with our incredible fur child, I couldn't imagine coming home and not being greeted by this big, lovable boy who just wants to drown us with his kisses.

Benny

"Benny"

My husband and I went to Peggy Adams to look around at the dogs. We didn't think we would be leaving with a new baby that day. When we walked in we were greeted warmly, and then we were directed to the building where the dogs were held. We took our time looking around at all the dogs. I kept coming back to Ben (we call him Benny). He was sitting in his cage curled in a ball and shaking. He looked so scared, scared of everything. We then came back into the main building and inquired how we can bring Ben home with us. We were explained everything, and we got to meet Benny. He was very shy at first. My husband and I sat on the floor, and finally he warmed up a bit and took a couple of treats out of our hands. We were in love. We spent some time playing with him and speaking to a few members of the staff who were so reassuring and caring. We went home with Benny that afternoon. That evening we had quite a scare and thought he was having a seizure. We spoke to someone at Peggy Adams the next morning, and they told us to bring him in. We did and thankfully he was fine, just a little scared and had to adjust to his new home. He is now as happy as can be. He loves sitting by our back door in the sun and loves following his mommy around...daddy too. We are so happy to have a new family member and we love him very much. We are so grateful to the staff at Peggy Adams for being so helpful and sweet to new doggy parents. We have and will continue to recommend them highly! Thank you again to all who were involved in the adoption of out little man!

Fay (now known as Rosie)

"Fay (now known as Rosie)"

My journey to find and bring home a new furry addition to our pet family began with a search of the adoption website. To be honest, the search was very difficult because there were so many adorable kitty cats, young and old, needing a home. At first, I didn't see Fay listed on the website. In fact, when I arrived at the League, many of the kittens I had seen were away at the Countdown 2 Zero Adoption Event. I wasn't deterred, however. As I made my way over to the kitten area, I was immediately drawn to a tiny, black and white kitty with a "bent backwards" tail, romping around the enclosure with several others. Tiny Fay, holding her own against the larger cats, bounced over to me and immediately began meowing for me to pick her up. That's all it took! That little baby was going home with me that day! Fay was a beautiful name, but after seeing her true personality coming to the surface, I decided to rename her Rosie. Like her new name, Rosie is irresistibly sweet and charming with a dash of mischievousness. Although it took a few deep breaths and lots of patience, Rosie has acclimated wonderfully to life alongside her older tuxedo brother, KC, and her domestic shorthair sister, Kandi. Both KC and Kandi are rescues, too. So, I hope Rosie's playmates back at the shelter will be (or have been) as fortunate as she in finding their own loving, forever homes.

BUDDY

"BUDDY"

WE LOVE OUR BUDDY!!:) YOU KNOW THAT MOMENT WHEN YOU ONLY HAVE EYES FOR THE ONE YOU LOVE? WELL AS FATE HAS IT, MY HUSBAND JACK AND I MADE A WRONG TURN AND AS WE WHERE PASSING PEGGY ADAMS WE LOOKED AT EACH OTHER AND SAID, WHY NOT? LET'S SEE WHAT PETS ARE THERE, WITH NO PLANS TO TAKE A FURRY ONE HOME. AS SOON AS WE PARKED, WE SAW THIS LITTLE FURRY TIMID BUNDLE OF JOY WE COULDN'T RESIST. AS WE FOUND OUT BUDDY WAS BEING RETURNED BECAUSE HE HAD SEPARATION ANXIETY. WELL WE TOOK THE CHALLENGE AND TOOK HIM HOME. IT WAS LIKE A NEW BORN BABY, TAKING TURNS SLEEPING NEXT TO HIM AND MAKING HIM FEEL LOVED AND COMFORTABLE. WE DID LIKE GIVE HIM PIECES OF CLOTHES WITH OUR SCENT TO SLEEP WITH AND WE DID SLEEP IN THE TRAINING CAGE WITH HIM OPEN DOOR AT ALL TIMES. THEN WE BROUGHT HIM INTO BED WITH HIS OWN BED SO HE COULD ADJUST TO US TOGETHER. IT DID NOT TAKE LONG AND NOW HE HAS ADJUSTED WELL. BESIDES TAKING HIM FOR DOGGIE TRAINING WITH PEGGY ADAMS TRAINER HE ALSO HAS BEEN TRAINED AS A SERVICE DOG. SOON HE WILL BE VISITING HOSPICES AND CHILDREN HOSPITALS TO DELIVER THE SAME LOVE HE HAS DELIVERED TO US. THANK YOU PEGGY ADAMS FOR OUR PRECIOUS FURRY LOVE BUDDY.

Sophie

"Sophie "

Six years ago, my dad and I walked into Peggy Adams looking for a dog to adopt. We were thinking about an older dog, one that had had some training and was a little less energetic. Instead, we found a tiny, 6-week-old bundle of energy named Sophia, who was quite literally bouncing off the walls of her cage! As soon as I saw her, I sat down in front of her cage and refused to move until my dad had gone to get a volunteer so that we could take Sophia home. He wasn't too sure about the prospect of raising one very hyper puppy, until the volunteer told us her birthday: it was the same as his! It seemed like fate had conspired to bring that little pug-schnauzer pup into our lives. Since then, Sophia, now Sophie, has been the center of our family life- she "sings" to us at mealtimes, bosses around her doggie friends in the neighborhood (at 30 lbs, she thinks she's much bigger than she is!), and brings us a different toy every time one of us walks through the front door. Sophie had the biggest heart of any dog I've ever met, and I can honestly say she's my best friend. Thanks, Peggy Adams!

Yoda

"Yoda "

Wednesday Morning I went for breakfast with a friend of mine. As we proceeded to leave I asked her about Peggy Adams. I've heard of the shelter, but never been. She recently adopted a beautiful little dog about a few months ago from there. Nothing but good things. As I walked in, I was extremely happy with how gorgeous the shelter is. The staff is very sweet! As I was looking around, I noticed a cute mixed small dog. When I finished looking, I decided to fill out the paperwork and meet him, but then realized, that another family was looking at him. My friend looked on the Peggy Adams website and showed me little "Herbie", a 3 pound chihuahua that was about 6yrs. I knew right there, I had to see him! The staff member took me to his kennel. I noticed a huge bed for a little dog, haha! He looked so scared. I was let in the cage and sat on the ground to his level. I held my hand out for him to smell me. Within seconds he jumped into my arms and started licking my face. I knew I had to take him home. I believe that pets choose us. My experience with Peggy Adams was AMAZING!! They take care of all those pets. So much love there. Just walking in, you could feel it. I'm so grateful to have my little man. He has stolen my heart. I encourage everyone to rescue. There's so many that need loving homes! Thanks again for my little Yoda!

Chuck

"Chuck"

We've been wanting to add to our family. On a whim, we decided to stop at Peggy Adams on our way home Thursday afternoon. There are so many dogs that need homes, but we need a small dog. We were about to give up, but at the end of the last row, we saw Chuck, a poor, matted blind Yorkie. I don't think anyone wanted him because of his sight and his age, he's 7. Well, we needed and wanted him! We went to inquire about him, Emily brought him in to meet us. What a sweet boy. I knew he needed to come home with us. While we were doing paperwork I was texting my groomer for a last minute Christmas Eve grooming. She pulled through for me. Chuck is a sweet little man, learning to put up with our Yorkie Max and Chihuahua Peanut. Sight impaired, but he's doing quite well and I think he's pretty happy with his new look! I wish you could see the before picture! The groomer said he was a perfect client. We may let his hair grow out a bit, we'll see. He is the best Christmas present we could've received. He's already a star on Facebook. We love him! Peggy Adams ARL is a wonderful facility and if you want a loving pet, that's where to go. The pet you choose just wants to be a part of a family and show you some love, just like you will show them. Thank you, Emily, for all your help on Thursday and thank you, Peggy Adams ARL, for being a no kill shelter!

Hazel

"Hazel"

Three months ago I adopted Hazel (now Mona), one of your cats, at a Pet Supermarket store. I have never been much of a cat person, but from the moment I saw her, I fell...hard. I waited 2 weeks before I decided to adopt her. I wanted to make sure it was fate and that I was prepared for her. The first few nights she was scared, would not leave my room, but snuggled every night with me. Now she and my mastiff mix, Pandora, go in my fenced-in yard and hunt for lizards together. She cuddles with my dogs and loves everyone that comes in. She is extremely friendly, and she also has learned to use the toilet! I love Mona and am so glad that I got to provide an excellent home for her.
